The DKC11.3 is often referred to as the dumb drive, which is unfair, but also accurate. Where all the other DKC drives have an input BGR card or brain, this drive simply has a blank cover plate. It is used as a velocity drive, where another unit (like a CLM) closes the position loop. It is distinguishable by the blank cover plate halfway up on the right side of the front.
One of the great strengths of the DKC drives are their ease of replacement. Pull a faulty unit and replace it with a new unit, then swap the firmware (ESM) module. It’s that simple. This reduces downtime, which is the most costly thing about a faulty unit, to just minutes once you are at the drive.
