Your Indramat servo motor may come with a component called a tachometer. For example, the Indramat MAC motor series is equipped with a brushless analog tachometer. So what’s a tachometer and why is it important?
What’s a tachometer?
A tachometer is also known as a revolution-counter, rev-counter, or RPM gauge. However, they’re more commonly referred to as “tach” or” tacho”. Your Indramat manual refers to the tachometer as “tacho”.
The tachometer is a sensor. It measures the rotation speed of the shaft in a servo motor. The speed is measured in RPM or revolutions per minute. Tachometers help motion control systems ensure precision, accuracy, and speed in production.
In other words, the tacho helps put the control in motion control.
Repairing your tacho
Monitoring motor speed is important for Indramat systems; that goes without saying. It’s absolutely essential to industrial motion control. If your tacho is broken, your machines won’t work. Amateur tachometer assembly or repair just doesn’t cut it.
