A Lot Can Change In a Decade

The world is a much different place than it was 10 years ago. It’s sometimes difficult to appreciate just how much change takes place over the course of a decade, but imagine you took a Rip Van Winkle kind of snooze in 2010 and awoke in 2020.

608 million people were on Facebook in 2010, and today 2.45 billion people use Facebook. In 2010, selfies were trendy; today, “selfie” is in the Oxford dictionary and selfie-related injuries and deaths are a growing problem (animal attacks, falls, drowning, etc.). We have convincing videos depicting people doing and saying things they’ve never done or said. You can pursue a career as an “influencer”, we have reusable rocket ships, and we’ve gone from iPhone 4 to iPhone 11.

Change doesn’t just occur outside your factory, though. Ten years brings a lot of change for your motion control system, too.

Your Indramat system after a decade

Ten years takes a toll on your factory machines. While Indramat’s brushless design helps eliminate wear and tear on your servomotor, imagine how much wear a decade of use puts on the moving parts of your system.

Indramat servo batteries have a 10-year lifetime. There’s a good chance that you will need to replace your battery soon if you didn’t replace it in the 2010s. Be sure to replace your Indramat battery as soon as you see an F248 Low Battery Voltage message. You have a maximum of two weeks once the error generates before you risk losing information and seeing damage to your machinery.

Those lifetime lubricated bearings in your Indramat servomotor may need to be replaced. You can’t service these bearings in your factory, however. You need to send your unit in for a factory repair if you need to replace your Indramat bearings.

Maybe your climate control cabinet broke down within the last 10 years, and you’ve been running your system without a properly functioning cabinet. This accelerates wear on your system and invites expensive downtime and repair costs.
