What do you do if your MDD motor stops working?
You can replace your MDD servo. However, you can’t just swap out your old Indramat MDD servo with any other MDD motor. There are several different types of MDD motor.
- MDD-021, MDD-025, and MDD-041 motors are low profile with a high power density. These motors were popular for screwing applications, auxiliary axes and tool changing devices.
- MDD-065, MDD-071, MDD-093, and MDD-115 have high power density and were built for dynamic applications. This includes tool changing devices, and roller feeds for pressing, punching, and nibbling machines.
- MDD-090 and MDD-112 servo motors are intended for high-precision applications, such as grinding machines.
You must match your type codes exactly to prevent downtime and additional repair costs. This is one of the biggest risks of buying a replacement Indramat motors from a third party.
Even if you do get the correct replacement servo, there’s no guarantee that the unit is in good condition or that it was stored properly. Indramat motors haven’t been made in 20 years—that’s plenty of time for that motor to be misused or damaged.
