Is Your Indramat Servo Broken?

Your motion control system just shut down and you see a diagnostic message indicating a problem with the motor – an F219 Motor Overtemperature Shutdown error code, for example. Clearly, your system isn’t working properly, and, clearly, the problem pertains to the motor. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your Indramat servo is broken, however.

Before you start hunting for places to buy Indramat motors on the internet, make sure that your servo actually needs replacing. A system shutdown and a servo motor error code indicates a problem, but that doesn’t mean that your servo is broken.

Error codes don’t always mean your Indramat servo is broken

Usually, you can troubleshoot Indramat error codes and clear the errors without replacing the unit.

An F219 error code may be caused by a motor overload, a broken wire, or speed control loop instability. You may be able to clear the error code by replacing the motor temperature monitor cable, resetting the parameter values of the speed control loop, or even just giving your motor a proper cleaning.

Depending on the cause of the problem, the fix can be fast and affordable. In other words, don’t default to looking for a replacement unit for your Indramat system at the first sign of trouble.

Even if your Indramat servo motor is broken, you don’t necessarily need to buy a new Indramat motor. A factory reman brings new life to your machinery, and restores components to like new condition.
