The most recent data from the International Federation of Robotics shows that 2.7 million robots operated in factories in 2019. This is the highest number of robot workers the world has ever seen. New installations for 2019 totaled $13.8 billion. So which parts of the world are using the most robots?
Where do robots work?
Almost three-fourths of the worlds new industrial robot installations occurred in five countries: China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.
Of all manufacturing robots, 34% are in the automotive industry, 25% in electrical and electronics, and 10% are in the metal industry.
The world averaged 113 robot workers per 10,000 workers. However, industrial robot density is much higher in some parts of the world than in others.

Singapore had 918 robots per 10,000 workers in the manufacturing industry in 2019.
China still ranks highest for annual installations of industrial robots at 140,500 units. Japan comes in second with 49,900 units, and the U.S. is in third with 33,300 annual installations.
No surprises in world’s industrial robot distribution
Asia is the strongest market for industrial robots; newly installed robots in Asia accounted for two-thirds of the global supply. India’s market for factory robots is growing rapidly. The country has doubled the number of industrial robots used in factories within the past five years.
We still see signs of life in American reshoring. The U.S reached a new operational stock record with approximately 293,200 units. That’s the highest number of industrial robots in the Americas with Mexico coming in at second with 40,300 units.
