Finding new Indramat motors isn’t easy; technically, new Indramat motors don’t exist. Every servo motor that will ever be made with the Indramat stamp was produced before 2001. However, you can still find Indramat servos in good working condition. Refurbished Indramat motors are often just as good as a brand new Indramat servo.
The trouble with new Indramat servos
Tracking down new Indramat motors can take a long time. Again, that’s because they haven’t been made in a couple of decades. However, a new, never-used Indramat motor isn’t necessarily your best option.
“New” or “never-used” is a little misleading. Maybe someone had a few motors stashed away in a hot, leaky storage unit. Those motors are “new” in the sense that they’ve never been used. That doesn’t mean that they are in good condition, though. You must operate and store Indramat servos in a controlled environment to ensure that they work properly. Moisture, humidity, pollutants, and extreme temperatures can compromise the performance of your servos.
So before you buy that “new” motor remember:

Are refurbished motors better than new?
Refurbished Indramat motors can be just as good as — if not better than — the Indramat motors that left the factory 20+ years ago. Factory repairs update motors to the latest technological version; sometimes this means an upgrade for your servos.
This isn’t always the case, though. You have to be careful when buying refurbished servos. There isn’t a defined standard for a refurbished Indramat motor. You can technically call any repaired servo motor “refurbished”.
- A motor that’s been updated to the most current version and tested to factory specifications by trained technicians at Bosch Rexroth? That’s a refurbished motor.
- A motor that’s been cracked open by a third party, soldered good and proper, and taped up just right? That’s a refurbished motor, too.
Refurbished Indramat motors aren’t necessarily better than new, but they often are. Know exactly what you’re getting when you purchase an Indramat servo; this goes for new and refurbished motors.
