A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Some pictures of Indramat servos on eBay or on servo repair websites look like the motor spent a few years working in a coal mine or was toted to work by a chimney sweep. There are strange burns and globs of solder. Dents and dings. Basically, the servos look like they’re in pretty rough condition. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this certainly applies to Indramat servo motors.

It’s easy to find Indramat servo motors, drives, and other Indramat products for sale online. Finding Indramat products in good condition from a reliable source isn’t quite as easy, however.

Don’t make the mistake of buying unit that doesn’t meet your standards. Here are a few things to watch out for with product images.

Red flags for product images

Be wary of a picture of a box that supposedly contains a servo motor or other Indramat part. That’s kind of like a sarcophagus. It looks great on the outside, but it contains something horrific and terrifying. Indramat products are too expensive, and too important to your business, to risk buying something you can’t see.

Some third parties try to sell you with stock photos. As with the picture of a box, you don’t actually see the product you’re buying when you’re presented with a stock photo.

That blurry and out of focus shot from 6 feet away is great for masking any cosmetic – or functional- damage.

Or maybe there’s not an image at all. Under no circumstance should you buy an Indramat unit without seeing what you’re getting.

A picture doesn’t tell the whole story, either.

Images can indicate a questionable servo, drive, or control. That being said, a picture of a squeaky clean servo doesn’t necessarily result in a good unit.

The point is that you should be critical of third parties selling Indramat products. Bosch Rexroth – the company that owns and services Indramat – does not sell to third parties in order to control the quality and reputation of their brand.

Instead of trying your luck on an eBay Indramat servo, get a factory repair on the same unit you’ve used reliably for decades.
